Crochet,
craft & chat.
Hi I'm Anouchka, nice to meet you. I've been crocheting & crafting for about 11 years now and I thought it was time to share my creations and thoughts. Welcome along, I hope you can stick around...
About Me
I think I would consider myself to be a home crafter, I never quite get all the technical terms right and I make up a lot of it as I go along but I do love a challenge. I have been crocheting for about 11 years now. I was taught by my Mum, who I consider to be the ultimate ‘can do anything’ women (with craft cupboards so organised it could make you weep), she taught me at a time when I needed a distraction and learning a new skill worked a treat. I come from a long line of women do-ers, from my amazing granny who thought nothing of rejigging an outfit, to make it work for her, right into her 90’s and a mum who ensured my brothers and I were never under-dressed at a fancy dress party, even with only an hours notice.
I started with sewing, the sewing machine was always easily accessible in our house, and a fashion college course when I was 18 solidified that knowledge. I own very few outfits that I haven’t altered in some way (thank you Granny) and my kids and my (not) husband have to put up with me making them matching pyjama bottoms out of old bed sheets because it makes me smile. I studied 3 Dimensional Design at University, focussing on working with metal, until my final year where I was creating silver jewellery. Looking back now, my final show piece wasn’t great but I did have a hell of a good time!
Looking around my house I can see the rocking chair that I recovered with map fabric, the eiderdown I made for our first flat because it was cold, the hideous yellow crochet blanket that the cat has claimed as his own, the geometric blanket I crocheted using head scratching amounts of crochet maths to ensure I had the right amount of wool, the basket full of baby hats that look like fruit berries and a box of hair scrunchies made from all the off-cuts of fabric I had left over after making face coverings - and that’s just in the room I’m sitting in now!
I hope some of the things I write about resonate with you. I started this blog because I wanted to share how I view crafting - haphazardly and with a smile. I will have a go at most things and as the saying goes, if at first you don’t succeed…hide all the evidence that you tried and start a new project x
