Wearing something you’ve made

I don’t often crochet proper items of clothing. I make and wear a lot of hats and arm-warmers but not actual clothing. However, I made a jumper – I obviously didn’t follow a pattern because I dislike being told what to do (!) so I made it up. As with many projects which are slightly out of my comfort zone it took ages as I kept starting and stopping. Once I had made the front and back panel I had to work out the best way to attach the top yolk – this took a good few weeks of mulling. Then I had to build up the courage to attach the arms and finally see if I could botch some sort of cuff, which I was very chuffed to actually achieve. Finally I used the blocking technique mentioned here to flatten the joins and I was ready to wear it. My OH was suitably impressed and wondered if people might comment on it during my day. I was just hopeful that no one would think it was anything other than a normal jumper I had thrown on that morning. I was convinced I got away with it until that evening when my DS pointed out the series of thread ends hanging from the underside of my sleeve that had been wafting about all day!! Oh the shame.
