Wool manipulation

What a fancy title, but what I really mean by this is how do you use your ball of wool? I always start from the centre of a standard 100g ball of wool. Pulling out a chunk from the middle and finding the end. I have to admit that it doesn’t always work out perfectly, instead of pulling out a manageable amount of wool and easily finding the end, I end up pulling out most of the ball and then am left with a huge tangle, however, when it does work it really is easier to pull the wool as you go. That said if I am making two of something small I will split the ball into two – pulling out and hand winding until it weighs half. As I have mentioned before, weighing your wool is so easy to do and can be so useful. I make a lot of arm-warmers (I’m always cold!) and you can easily make a pair from 100g of wool, or you can make a pair out of all the little bits of wool you have left in your wool store. Half every different bit into two and work on each arm-warmer simultaneously. I have made a few items where I was over confident in my ability to remember what I did for the fist arm-warmer and always ended up with a miss-match pair!
